At least six people were killed and more than a dozen wounded in a bomb blast yesterday in southwestern Pakistan, an official said.
A bomb planted on a motorbike went off in the heart of the city of Chaman, which borders Afghanistan’s Kandahar province.
“At least six people were killed and 20 others were wounded in the blast,” Mohamed Iqbal, a regional police official, told DPA.
It is feared the number of dead will go up, he said.
No group has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.
A vehicle carrying personnel from the country’s anti-narcotic force was believed to be the target of the blast, senior police official Razzaq Cheema told AFP.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has strongly condemned the Chaman blast and expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of lives.
Interior Minister Ejaz Shah said in a statement that “such attacks are aimed at spreading fear among the people”.
Information Minister Shibli Faraz and Baluchistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan have also strongly denounced the incident.
Kamal Khan said that terrorists want to create law and order issue in Chaman, but insisted that they will not succeed.
