United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) president-elect Volkan Bozkir called on Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi at the Foreign Office (FO) yesterday.
Qureshi welcomed the visiting dignitary who also planted a sapling at the office as part of the government’s plantation campaign.
According to a statement by the FO, both leaders had wide-ranging talks on issues relating to the three main pillars of the United Nations’ work: peace and security, development, and human rights.
Bozkir had initially been scheduled to visit Pakistan last month, but postponed his visit due to “some technical flight problems”.
The Turkish diplomat was elected president of the 75th session of the UNGA in June.
The FO statement said that Bozkir’s visit to Pakistan is an important opportunity to “highlight Pakistan’s strong and substantive contributions to the United Nations efforts in the promotion and maintenance of international peace and security, especially through our contribution to the UN peacekeeping operations around the world”.
