The Ordinary General Assembly of Umm Salal SC elected Sheikh Dr Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman al-Thani as president of the club yesterday by acclamation for the 2020-2024 term, along with Sheikh Tamim bin Mohamed al-Thani as vice president.
The General Assembly was held at Barzan Youth Centre amid precautionary and preventive measures in co-operation between the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Culture and Sports, and the quorum was completed in the presence of 44 out of 57 members.
The meeting was chaired by Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser al-Thani, former club president, in the presence of Sheikh Tamim bin Mohamed al-Thani, Vice President and Head of the football team, Mohamed Salem al-Nuaimi, Executive Director of Umm Salal, and Ibrahim al-Najjar, representative of the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
At the beginning of the meeting, Sheikh Hamad thanked the members of the General Assembly for attending and their keenness on the interest of the club. He said that the club achieved good results in the past four years and was close to entering the top four in the league, but this season the team went through difficult circumstances, stressing that the club can get better in the next season.
He wished success for the club during the coming period and for the new board of directors to achieve the ambitions and goals of Umm Salal. His Excellency thanked the Ministry of Culture and Sports for the support of the club and all the club’s employees for their work in the past period and their constant endeavour to upgrade the club.
After announcing his victory by acclamation to head the club, Sheikh Dr Abdulaziz said: “We have the vision to build a sports community inside the club, not just a football team, and there was a lengthy meeting with the age groups, and we have big dreams by developing a strategy and action plan for the club to achieve our goals.”
He pointed out that the club is looking for investments to find other sources of income, adding that Umm Salal will start some investment projects that will benefit the club. He explained that the club currently focuses on overcoming this difficult stage for the team and remain in the first division.
Sheikh Tamim bin Mohamed al-Thani wished the club success in the next stage, expressing thanks to Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser al-Thani for his efforts during his presidency of the club. He wished Sheikh Dr Abdulaziz success in leading the club to achieve its goals.
