The Public Parks Department at the Ministry of Municipality has started its annual campaign for planting seasonal flowers at the streets, parks, and pedestrian pathways and various other public places across Doha as the weather temperature has started to drop considerably over the past few days.Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that the department has ensured the deployment of hundreds of its employees, in addition to workers from some private sector companies, which has contracts with the department in this regard, across various parts of the country to carry out such agricultural works. Such tasks are done through a work shift system, around the clock, aiming to completing all the necessary agricultural decoration and planting works within a short period of time.The department has been keen to planting millions of flowers in various areas of the country, which adds a distinctive beautiful and appealing appearance to these public areas during the winter season. Meanwhile, the department has continued carrying out agricultural maintenance work for green areas and trees on main streets and around public facilities. Many of these beautification works have already been completed, while work is still in progress at some locations, such as Airport Street, Al-Hatim, Najma, and the Education City Street, in addition to the bridges along Abu Samra and the other roads.The Department adopts the most sophisticated care programmes in the field to maintain the plants and seasonal flowers used across the country. This is achieved by providing fertilizers and soil conditioners that help reduce the plants' reliance on water without affecting their growth and quality. The department also places a strong emphasis on regular maintenance throughout the winter season, using modern technology to monitor and irrigate green areas from a central control rooms to reduce labour dependency and save water.Further, the department intensively uses the "Petunia" flower, which is produced 100% in Qatar, in its beautification projects and works. Petunias are well-known for their beauty, diverse colors, and trumpet- shape blooms.
