Prime Minister Imran Khan says the government is fully cognisant of the suffering of the people in the wake of the heavy rains, especially the people of Karachi.
In a series of tweets, the prime minister said that he is personally monitoring the relief and rescue operations and is in constant contact with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) chairman and Sindh governor for regular updates.
Khan said that he has directed the NDMA chairman to not only rescue stranded people but also provide emergency medical assistance, food and shelter to all those in need.
He also directed the NDMA chairman to ensure the restoration of utilities.
The prime minister said the government will be announcing a plan for a permanent solution to the problems caused by floods by cleaning of nullahs, fixing of the sewage system, and resolving the huge challenge of water supply to the people of Karachi.
He said that master plans for all major cities of the country are being devised to prevent the damage caused by urbanisation.
Khan said that, in this regard, the Ravi Riverfront Urban City in Lahore and the Bundal Island City in Karachi are being developed the pattern of the federal capital.
He said these projects will help curb overpopulation and food insecurity.
