Italian ambassador to Qatar, Alessandro Prunas, has congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, on the speech delivered at the opening of the 75th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
“We appreciate Qatar’s commitment towards multilateral dialogue and conflict mediation particularly in regional conflicts, including but not limited to Libya and Afghanistan. These efforts are aligned with Italy’s firm stance in favour of peaceful resolution and inclusive political settlement of international dispute,” the envoy said in a statement.
“In the context of the UNGA both Italy and Qatar, along with other international partners, stressed that Covid-19 outbreak has called for an increased international co-operation. The resources mobilised to tackle the pandemic should be directed to ensure a more effective multilateralism, while rejecting the logic of competition.
“We also welcome Qatar’s commitment in the field of development assistance, especially in promoting universal access to education and assisting Least developed countries and Small Island Developing States to deal with climate change. In all these fields, where Italy plays an active role, we feel encouraged to explore further partnerships and dialogue with Qatar”.
