The Icelandic Meteorological Office announced Tuesday that a volcano on southwest Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula erupted on Monday following weeks of seismic activity. The volcano, located north of the village of Grindavik, had erupted with orange lava ejecting, the Icelandic Meteorological Office said. The town was evacuated last November due to fears of a volcanic eruption, as local authorities declared a state of emergency, following a series of earthquakes that continued for weeks, which may herald an imminent volcanic eruption. The Fagradalsfjall volcano, located about 30 km from the capital, Reykjavik, erupted in July, causing toxic gases and landslides.
