This decade has given way to the spread of celebrities on a large scale – huge – unprecedented in the past, and for reasons that differ – as well – from the reasons for fame in the distant past, and even the recent. The means of communication have become full of many famous names – in their differences – what is between serious, who provides scientific or cognitive content, or on the contrary of celebrities who master blank content, the phenomenon of fame on the social media channels appears as a situation that needs to be pondered and questioned.
On Instagram, snapchat, or any other social media channel, the names of the fashionistas vary – in a race over the follower numbers estimated in the hundreds of thousands, and possibly millions. Because they present their image in new fashion and cosmetics!
This constant display of one on others to attract their interest, regardless of the quality of the content provided, leads us to wonder about the matter, is it a casual event created by social media, or is it the self-desire served by the social media channels? What is the result of the rapid fame with the empty content? And how are the masses like in dealing with celebrities in the modern era? But before that, we need to know the motive: Why is this happening in the first place?
When you search for human needs, the American psychologist ‘Abraham Maslow’ will give you the answer, according to studies he has conducted on visitors to his clinic, as follows: In the beginning, a person needs to satisfy his physiological desires, then security, passing through social desires, so that the graduation will stop you at the need for appreciation, then proceeds to the subjective need for distinction and uniqueness.
The more appreciation we get, the less others ignore us – in such cases – plays the role of a shield that protects us from frustration. “It declares our importance to anyone trying to put us aside and threatens us with consequences in case he persists . It helps calm the voices of criticism that we have done. It was stifled within us by parents, classmates and teachers “. In the end, according to Baumann , it’s not real value unless a person has an actual benefit or heroism that changes the face of life for his fans. What is the actual value that one gets from that?
Is it the needs of the esteem-seeking self? And if this is the case, is everything that the soul needs to be legitimate without restraint or refinement? Can this request be considered a psychological defect that leads its owner to narcissism and condescension over others because of the number of followers on his page on a social media channel? And if that is acceptable to some and deserves to be tried, then the question asked by “Baumann” timidly remains for every celebrity without a tournament: Is it really worth all that?
We must stop and ask ourselves, what are we doing? Following and liking fashionistas – or so called celebrities that don’t add any value whatsoever in our life! Unlikely, we are losing time and money by doing so! Watching their empty and silly content is a waste of time, in addition, buying what they market is a waste of money!
Look into your social media channels, filter what doesn’t benefit you and live right!
