The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) said it expects to complete 78 new public gardens and parks by 2023 across the country, according to a report in local Arabic daily Arrayah.
At present, there are 95 public gardens and parks of different types and sizes in the country, with 18 of them opened this year alone. Besides, the MME has produced 532,392 plant seedlings and distributed 324,654 of these, while schools were engaged in planting 1,000 trees on Al Khor Road, the report states.
In a video report posted by the MME on its YouTube channel reviewing its achievements in the first half of 2020, the ministry said the country’s livestock wealth amounted to 1.648mn heads, noting that 53,411 heads of camels and sheep were tagged and registered.
Besides, 20,000 baby hamour fish and 51,000 of young sea bream fish were released into the local marine waters to enhance the country’s fish stock.
The five yards for selling local agricultural products managed to sell 16,035 tonnes of vegetables. Also, total vegetable production in the country amounted to 91,470 tonnes. Similarly, self-sufficiency level is 124% in the production of fresh chicken, 106% in dairy products and 33% in vegetables, the report points out.
The MME has also accomplished various public services in different fields covering public hygiene, sanitisation and sterilisation of different places around the country, and providing more equipment and vehicles to different municipalities and departments to enhance their performance.
In addition, the ministry has exerted great efforts to maintain the quality of air and preserve the local environment, which will reflect positively on the lives of inhabitants.
Regarding its public service transactions and issuance of permits and licences for various purposes, the MME has improved its mechanism for these works and introduced state-of-the-art methods to further enhance the quality of services. The number of public transactions over the past six months reached 395,439, covering various related services.
Meanwhile, the MME has been highly active in its food health and safety monitoring and inspection efforts. It has conducted around 46,000 inspection campaigns and tours, in which some 1,411 violations were registered.
