The College of Computing and Information Technology of the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) hosted the second International Conference on Bioinformatics (iCOBLET2024), which aims to build bridges between education and training in the field of bioinformatics and scientific research. The conference was organized in collaboration with the Global Organization for Bioinformatics Learning, Education and Training (GOBLET), under the theme 'Harnessing Bioinformatics Education for Sustainable Innovation,' with the participation of experts, academics and researchers who discussed the latest developments affecting life sciences and health. The conference included keynote speeches, short presentations, panel discussions, and Eduten's well-attended activity. Eduten is a platform that supports participants to present innovative solutions that address the major challenges in bioinformatics education and training. The participants had the opportunity to attend eight workshops covering bioinformatics techniques, such as DNA sequencing, computer-aided drug design, integrating generative AI (artificial intelligence) into education, and more.During the conference, President of UDST, Dr Salem bin Nasser Al-Naemi, pointed out that the success of the conference reflects the importance of co-operation in driving innovation, highlighting the university's commitment to providing opportunities for the community, faculty members and students who apply their knowledge and learn from experts. He indicated that the university attaches great importance to the field of bioinformatics for its role in advancing medical discoveries, developing treatments, monitoring and preventing diseases, as well as enhancing the effectiveness and accuracy of medicine.Dr. Al-Naemi revealed that UDST will soon open a bioinformatics center designated for research, education and service delivery. Through such initiatives, the university enables scientists to make sustainable contributions to health and life sciences, thus contributing to the realization of Qatar National Vision 2030, he added. For his part, Dr Javier de Las Rivas, a member of the Executive Board of GOBLET, said that the organization's experience in iCOBLET2024 was exceptional, pointing out UDST's role in the field of Bioinformatics. He also noted that the valuable conference discussions will contribute to shaping the future of education and research in this field.
