Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) chairman Sheikh Dr Khaled bin Jaber al-Thani has appreciated Qatar Airways' efforts to spread awareness of cancer, especially breast cancer, one of the most common types among women in Qatar and worldwide.
"It is wonderful to see this great support from Qatar Airways, that contributes significantly to raising awareness among citizens and residents about breast cancer in conjunction with the Blossom campaign that QCS launched," he said in a statement.
The fight against cancer needs concerted efforts and constant co-operation between all institutions and agencies in the country. Blossom is a national campaign targeting all categories of Qatari society throughout the month, and aims to emphasise the importance of a healthy lifestyle to prevent the disease, highlight the health services available in Qatar, financial support to cancer patients and document the experiences of individuals living with cancer.
Qatar Airways has shown its support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by ‘drawing’ a symbolic pink ribbon in the sky above Qatar on Saturday. Flight QR9901 took a special route to create the ribbon image with its unique flight path being displayed in real-time by popular flight tracking sites.
The ‘ThinkPink’ flight was exclusively operated by women – from the ground operations, technical, and dispatch teams to the flight deck and cabin crew.
The unusual flight path attracted the attention of many people who tracked the Qatar Airways flight throughout its duration and tuned in live to watch QR9901 drawing the Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Ribbon in the sky above Qatar.
