Well according to a scientific study, the configuration of memory storage in official records (coding) and processing or restoration. As for emotions, it acts as a semantic pen that confirms things, the trademark in our experiences to make them unforgettable, as it affects the stages of memory formation. Here's how:
Attention:
Attention drives our focus to choose the things and events most relevant to our lives, which usually takes the form of a narrative. Nothing focuses the attention of our brains or attracts our thinking more than the element of surprise. For example, we may enjoy listening to a certain conversation, but it becomes boring if it is retold.
Memory consolidation:
Much of the information that we acquire is forgotten before it enters into the long-term memory. When we learn a complex issue, the temporary (short-term) memory is released and the reaction becomes automatic. We remember emotionally charged events better than temperate ones. You will never forget your happiness at the birth of your first child, for example, or the horror of the September 11th terrorist attack, as the stress hormones (adrenaline and cortisone) strengthen memory and reinforce its components. It stands to reason that dangerous states would permeate our brains to avoid them in the future.
Memory retrieval:
Studies say that painful psychological situations last in our memories more than physical ones. Emotional pain can damage our self esteem in the long run. For example: you will always remember the death of a dear one but not necessarily remembering breaking a leg when you were a teenager.
Recurring similar events:
Also, one of the strong reasons that make us remember old events and not remember the new ones may be that the old events have occurred in some way similar to them, and that simply means that there is an old conversation that has been engraved in the memory through a new event similar to it, and if we want an example of that, let us bring you closer. In terms of people, of course many people pass through our lives and we cannot in any way remember them all, but, in a moment, we may remember one of them only because we have seen a person who looks like them, either by looks, smell, or the way they act.
Finally, I would like to point out that nowadays people have a weak memory in comparison to the previous ages, and that is for several reasons:
1. Poor nutrition
2. Stress
3. Some medications that cause depression
So now we understand why some memories are easily recalled while others vanish away!
