The death toll in Turkey from Friday's powerful earthquake that jolted the Aegean Izmir's region has risen to 83, the Turkish Environment and Urban Planning Minister Murat Kurum said Monday.
Speaking at a news conference in the western Izmir province, Kurum updated the number of heavily damaged and destroyed buildings to 58.
With cold weather conditions affecting quake victims, Kurum called on citizens to seek shelter at local guest houses.
"The number of collapsed and severely damaged buildings that require rapid intervention has reached 58 buildings, and we have 397 buildings with minor damages and 66 buildings with moderate damage," said Kurum.
Meanwhile, a wounded three-year-old girl has been rescued Monday, 65 hours after the quake in the Bayrakli district of western Izmir province.
About 23 hours after the quake, the girl's mother and her 10-year-old twin siblings, as well as her seven-year-old brother were pulled from rubble. However, one of her brother lost his life, while her mother and two other siblings are under treatment.
