The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) shared with Qatar University (QU) students its plans for the cultural offering fans can expect from the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, during an online lecture.

Fan Experience Senior Manager for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC Fatma Al Jaidah told students Qatar is aiming to provide a unique, global, pioneering and inspiring experience that establishes it as a vibrant destination and positions it as a modern country looking to the future based on strong economic foundations, Islamic traditions and values.

‘The cultural experience is crucial to successfully hosting an event like Qatar 2022,’ said Al Jaidah. ‘We have identified the culture component as one of the three most important pillars of this event: connectivity, individuals and culture. The culture is a factor that reflects the individuals of the community and the nature of ties among them. The tournament is also an exceptional opportunity to communicate with the world and shed light on Qatar's unique culture and its social and economic aspirations,’ she said.

She added that football during the World Cup 2022 would be the gateway to other experiences that could be just as rewarding.

‘The cultural experience project will leave a national cultural sector capable of creating world-class creative programmes filled with the latest technologies for the production of various digital arts,’ Al Jaidah said.

Al Jaidah said there were plans to host fringe cultural shows in 2022, along with a festival of digital arts. The festival will showcase cultural shows using modern technology in order to boost virtual participation and enhance excitement. She also revealed the cultural experience during Qatar 2022 will reflect the people of Qatar and embrace innovative initiatives for the development of regional and global partnerships.

‘The cultural performances during the tournament will reflect Qatari culture, changing stereotypes about the people of the region as well as promoting interest in tourist attractions, encouraging investment opportunities and future partnerships along with the tournaments ability to bring people together and improve global dialogue on cultural similarities rather than differences,’ she added.
