HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said on Thursday Qatar was looking forward to enhancing strategic bilateral relations with Turkey in all fields including security, politics, military, investment, development and culture.
He was speaking at the preparatory ministerial meeting of the sixth session of the Qatar-Turkey Supreme Strategic Committee held in Antalya.
HE Sheikh Mohamed is heading Qatar’s delegation while Turkey was represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu.
He noted the strengthening of bilateral ties to the level of a complementary partnership under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Qatar plans to move forward with efforts to enhance bilateral co-operation further in light of the SWAP and economic and commerce agreements that were signed, in addition to other agreements and memorandums of understanding that will be signed during the Supreme Joint Committee meeting to be held in Istanbul on November 26, HE Sheikh Mohamed said.
He referred to the growing bilateral trade between the two counties which reached $2.15bn in 2019.
HE Sheikh Mohamed said establishing a Turkish free economic zone in Qatar will enhance ties further and create a platform for Turkish investors to access markets in India, Asia and Africa.
He praised the outcomes of the fifth session of the Qatar-Turkey Supreme Strategic Committee that took place in Doha last November. He also praised the outcomes of meetings held through video conference between officials of the two countries in October.
HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs said security and political challenges in the Middle East and the world require constant consultation and expressed satisfaction with the agreement between the two sides on regional and international issues.
He said Qatar and Turkey will continue to support regional and international efforts to establish global peace and security, counter-terrorism, and resolve conflicts peacefully.
HE Sheikh Mohamed expressed his deep thanks and gratitude to the government and people of Turkey for the good reception and preparation for the meeting.
He renewed the condolences of the Amir, the Qatari government and people to the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck the state of Izmir. He wished the injured a speedy recovery.
HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated Qatar's support to Turkey in alleviating the impact of the disaster.
