The Central Municipal Council (CMC) held its 14th bi-weekly regular session of its sixth round yesterday morning, headed by its chairman Mohamed bin Hammoud al-Shafi.
The council discussed and reviewed the recommendations of its services and utilities committee on the non-availability of a specific barcode for Qatari products.
Accordingly, it urged the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to further enhance awareness campaigns to instruct local producers about the importance of having such a barcode and lay greater emphasis on the issue.
The council also discussed and reviewed the recommendations of its services and utilities committee on creating a public body specialised in agriculture and food safety.
For this, the CMC urged the Ministry of Municipality and Environment to look into the possibility of creating an independent body to deal with related issues in the country, which would reflect positively on the field and enhance services and products in the local market.
Further, the CMC reviewed the services and utilities committee’s responses to its previous suggestions on various issues, including supporting Qatari citizens to repair, rehabilitate and develop their houses, safety and security procedures for portable cabins, and combating the phenomenon of abandoned houses.
In addition, the council reviewed its legal committee’s report regarding its previous recommendations on the standards for cleaning trucks after unloading their cargo, and the enforcement of Law No 15 of 2015 on the ban on labourers’ accommodation in family residential areas.
Eventually, the CMC agreed that the responses are sufficient and it would follow up on updates and developments regarding these issues with the entities concerned.
