A visit to the Lusail Stadium, the venue for the final of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, perhaps overwhelmed FIFA President Gianni Infantino on Tuesday.

Talking at the under-construction venue, which will have a capacity of 80,000 when ready, Infantino said, “It is a fantastic feeling to be here at this beautiful Lusail Stadium merely thinking that after two years, the final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the most important match, will be held exactly in this place; so it is an amazing feeling.”

The stadium will embody Qatar's ambition and its passion for sharing Arab culture with the world. The design of this magnificent stadium is inspired by the interplay of light and shadow that characterises the fanar lantern. The venue will also become the centrepiece of Lusail – a newly built, state-of-the-art metropolis, designed specifically with residents’ needs in mind. The stadium will host ten matches up to and including the final of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

“When you see the work going on, the feeling about the stadium at this stage is almost magical,” Infantino was quoted as saying to Al Kass Channel.

The FIFA president appreciated the reforms brought about by the State of Qatar for worker welfare.

“The latest achievements regarding minimum wage for workers is very important. It not only sends a strong message but also affirms that people in Qatar believe in action and facts, not in propaganda and great speech.”

He added: “While the credit goes to the 2022 FIFA World Cup and people in Qatar, but the impact of the event will be on the entire region because, as I said earlier, this is not a FIFA World Cup only for Qatar but GCC, Arab World and entire world.

“I am very happy to see what was achieved so far and what will be done during next two years.”
