The Qatari Forum for Publishers and Distributors, affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and Sports (MCS), has announced the launch of the “Kitabok Nadeemak” (your book is your companion) initiative, which aims to encourage reading during the Covid-19 quarantine period.

The Covid-19 respiratory disease is caused by the coronavirus.

Ibrahim al-Bohashem al-Sayed, director of the Qatari Publishers and Distributors Forum, said that this initiative is made up of two parts: the first aims to place contributions from Qatari publishers for readers to access online, while the second part covers the distribution of publications and books by Qatari publishers to quarantine centres in Qatar.

He said that this initiative came after the forum found that many studies have confirmed that reading is one of the means to help patients recover psychologically.

Reading, the studies have found, reduces psychosocial tension while developing the patient's sense of achievement as well as mental and cognitive balance.

The programme provides readers with access to a number of books on various subjects, such as literature, arts, law, science, general knowledge, social sciences, and religion.

The Qatari Publishers and Distributors Forum, established by the MCS Decision No 51 of 2019, helps with the distribution of publications by Qatari authors locally, regionally, and internationally.
