Katara – The Cultural Village has signed a co-operation agreement with the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) to host the first edition of Katara's International Arabian Horse Festival, which will be held from February 2-6, 2021 at Katara Beach.
Katara general manager and festival organising committee head Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti said that Qatar has a heritage in equestrian sports.
He said that the idea of this festival is mainly inspired by the cultural and historical memory of Qatari society; Qataris have loved and appreciated this sport since ancient times, and have always been interested in ancient Arab breeds of horses.
Katara has always organised and presented major international festivals and exhibitions that symbolise Qatari heritage, promoting a culture of modernisation in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
Dr al-Sulaiti explained that only the best international horse breeds will be eligible to participate in the annual event, with cash prizes totalling QR13mn.
"The hosting of this tournament in Katara reflects our endeavour to be present with our public in all forums," he said, adding that he hopes the Katara International Arabian Horse Championship will be a global event that attracts all those interested in the equestrian world.
