Ambassador of Sweden to Qatar Anders Bengtsson affirmed that Since Sweden opened up its embassy in Doha in 2014 relations between our countries have expanded significantly. In a statement to Qatar News Agency, the ambassador noted that trade between Sweden and Qatar almost doubled between 2015 and 2019. "We have intensified our bilateral dialogue. Last year we signed an MoU with Qatar on annual political consultations. In January this year Sweden, Qatar and ILO signed a MoU on cooperation in the areas of health and safety at work and corporate social responsibility," he added.
He pointed out that Qatar and Sweden share an interest in high technology and innovation, noting that recently, Sweden, with Qatar Foundation as their main partner, arranged two hybrid webinars on Precision Medicine and Artificial Intelligence, where experts from both Sweden and Qatar representing industry, government agencies, universities and hospitals participated as speakers.
He hoped that the exchange will lead to increased cooperation in these two fields where both our countries are devoting considerable resources and seeing significant opportunities. The ambassador congratulated His Highness the Amir, the government and the people of Qatar on the occasion of the National Day, noting that although this National Day might be different due to the restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic, Qatar has much to celebrate and be proud of. Qatar has seen impressive developments in a short time and is implementing an ambitious national strategy for its future.
HE affirmed that Qatar has an established and well-deserved reputation in international humanitarian and development assistance and peace mediation. The ongoing negotiations in Doha on the future of Afghanistan is an important example of the significant role Qatar is playing in this respect.
Regarding Covid-19 pandemic, the envoy stressed on the measures taken by Qatar to control the pandemic have produced impressive results as the infection rates have been significantly reduced and the second wave many other countries are experiencing has so far been prevented.
