HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani met yesterday with the visiting Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation Luigi Di Maio.
During the meeting, they reviewed bilateral relations and developments in the region, especially the Libyan issue, and issues of common concern.
On the sidelines of the meeting, a memorandum of understanding on the strategic dialogue was signed between the foreign ministries of Qatar and Italy.
HE Sheikh Mohamed said that the strategic dialogue between the two countries aims at strengthening political and diplomatic relations and developing bilateral relations, including investment, trade, energy, agriculture, food security, tourism, co-operation in cultural affairs, education, science and technology, health, sports and youth.
He said the dialogue also aims at co-ordinating the positions of the two countries on international and regional issues, defence and security issues, combating terrorism and extremism, co-ordinating positions in forums and mutual support for nominations in international organisations, implementing international agreements in which Qatar and Italy are parties, following up the implementation of agreements and memorandums of understanding signed by the two parties, and facilitating the exchange of information, experiences, consultations, and other issues of common interest.
