The Qatar Cricket Association (QCA) will be conducting a T10 cricket tournament for Asian communities at the Asian City Stadium on December 25. Four teams representing the communities of Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be participating.
The announcement was made at a press conference held celebrating Qatar’s National Day. Youssef Jaham al-Kuwari, President, QCA, Abdullah Aman al-Khater, Secretary, QCA, and Isa al-Yaqoub, Director, Public Relations, QCA, were present on the occasion.
The tournament, also being held to mark Qatar’s National Day, is being sponsored by Urdu Radio (FM 107).
Youssef Jaham al-Kuwari said he was happy to hold this cricket tournament after a long hiatus following the Covid-19 pandemic. “We are announcing this on Qatar National Day, which is an occasion that represents a great celebration for all. The tournament is expected to witness a distinguished public presence, especially since cricket is very popular in Qatar especially among the Asian communities,” he said.
Al-Kuwari stressed that all precautionary and preventive health measures will be implemented in co-operation with the Ministry of Public Health. All players, participants and work teams will be subjected to a Covid-19 test in order for the safety of all.
He pointed out that the fans who love cricket will enjoy a busy day of activities, as the competitions will begin at 9:30am continue until about eight in the evening. He called on the fans to adhere to social distancing, wear masks and show the application of precaution.
Al-Kuwari pointed out that due to the very difficult circumstances because of the pandemic the participation in this edition has been limited to four teams. The number of teams will be increased next year with participation of international cricket stars.
For his part, Abdullah Aman al-Khater invited fans to attend the event. “Prizes will also be allocated for fans attending the tournament. It will be a festive day for the fans and everyone will enjoy strong competitions due to the quality of the participating teams. Each team will have two professionals playing. “A match will also be organized between Qatar’s women’s national team before the final match of the tournament,” he said.
Isa al-Yaqoub said that only 50% of the Asian City Stadium capacity will be used to accommodate fans and there will be precautionary measures in place. The stadium will be opened part by part to maintain social distancing between the fans and the safety of everyone.”
