The ongoing first phase of the Covid-19 vaccination campaign in Qatar continues to witness an increasing turnout of citizens and residents from among the priority groups, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) tweeted on Sunday.
Among the dignitaries who received the vaccine on Sunday were HE the Minister of State Sheikh Hamad bin Suhaim al-Thani and HE the Minister of State Abdul Rahman bin Hamad al-Attiyah.
In a series of tweets, the MoPH explained that they praised Qatar's efforts in confronting the Covid-19 pandemic right from the beginning to the provision of vaccination for all citizens and residents and pointed out that Qatar is one of the first countries to start the vaccination.
The dignitaries expressed their sincere gratitude and appreciation to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, HE the Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohamed al-Kuwari and all the medical, nursing and support staff who continue to fight the pandemic.They also urged the target groups to take the vaccination according to their turn.
Qatar on December 23 joined the rank of a handful of countries to roll out the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 by administering the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at seven primary health centres.
In the first phase of vaccination lasting until January 31, preference is given to people over 70, adults in chronic care and home care facilities, healthcare personnel most at risk of infection and people over 16 with severe chronic diseases. The Covid-19 vaccine will not be given to children below 16 as clinical trials were not done among this group.
