Preparations are in progress, for the Shura Council elections in October, by the committee concerned, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported quoting Brigadier General Salem Saqr al-Muraikhi, director of the Legal Affairs Department at Ministry of Interior (MoI).
“There are separate teams working for the successful conduct of the election,” he said while explaining that sub committees were formed after the Amiri decision was issued to form the Supreme Committee.
The sub committees are meeting regularly to draft laws, regulations and decisions while working to complete the electoral process.
“Several works have been so far completed and only a few simple things remain,” he said adding that these will be completed soon. The Constitution provides for the establishment of a Council comprising 45 members, 30 of whom are elected and 15 appointed.
Al-Muraikhi said each electoral district will be represented by one member. The Constitution gave a general directive that the electoral districts should be inclusive of the regions of Qatar.
He added that the committee will allow any party that wants to monitor the electoral process whether the media or civil society organisations if a request is submitted in this regard to the authorities concerned, similar to the process in the last Central Municipal Council elections.
