The distribution network of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) achieved the highest level of performance in 2020 while ensuring uninterrupted service.
According to a Kahramaa statement, the performance index for the average number of outages for subscribers was a new rate of 0.1672 times for each subscriber, recording 12% improvement.
The targeted average was 0.364 and this reflects a remarkable improvement. This indicator is calculated by dividing the number affected by outages during the year on all of the consumers.
The performance index for average interruptions also witnessed an improvement of 26% in 2020 after recording an average of 11.666 minutes per subscriber as the target rate was 45.5 minutes.
The achievement was made by Kahramaa despite the shortcomings due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “The technical performance of the distribution network in 2020 witnessed a significant improvement registering unprecedented levels for the first time in the history of the electrical system,” the press statement said.
The response speed index for distribution network faults recorded an unprecedented average in terms of response times for faults by various emergency offices marking a record time of 55 minutes while the average repair index reached 1.40 hours. This indicator measures the speed of Kahramaa’s response to faults and is calculated by dividing the total number of outages recorded during the year by the total subscribers.
Kaharamaa’s periodical preventive maintenance programmes and corrective measures to avoid malfunctions before they occur with the aim of ensuring the safe operation of the networks led to the improvement of operating processes.
Kahramaa thanked all its workers with electricity networks and various departments for their efforts that helped the corporation achieve unprecedented performance.
