The Al Rayyan Municipality has joined hands with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) to set up five parks within two years.
The proposed parks include the under construction Umm Al Saneem and Al Gharrafa parks, Al Rayyan Municipality's Public Services and Municipal Control departments director Saleh Hamad al-Hadwan told local Arabic daily Arrayah.
There is also a plan in co-operation with the Ministry of Transport and Communications to develop pedestrian and cycle paths within various areas of the municipality in order to encourage healthier lifestyles, he explained.
The parks will have thousands of trees and plants amid vast green areas along with facilities for the visitors, such as restaurants, fitness equipment for adults, kids’ play areas including those for children with special needs, and jogging and cycling lanes.
The trees, including wild Ghaff, Samar and Sidra, will contribute to controlling the effects of winds and dust and reduce temperature and air pollution in the city.
The construction of Al Gharrafa and Umm Al Saneem parks will be completed within the fourth quarter of 2021, according to Ashghal's website.
