Saudi Arabia expects to reopen its embassy in Doha in the coming days, the kingdom’s foreign minister has said, Reuters reported Saturday.
It is just a matter of logistics, Faisal bin Farhan told journalists in Riyadh when asked about embassy reopenings. Full diplomatic relations will resume, he added.
This comes following a recent deal to end a three-year-old dispute between four Arab countries and Qatar.
The Al-Ula Declaration was signed during the GCC Summit recently for the restoration of full relations between Qatar and the four nations – Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt – that had cut ties with it in 2017.
With the reopening of borders and lifting of the airspace ban, Qatar Airways has resumed flights to Saudi Arabia while the first Saudi Airlines flight also arrived in Doha recently.
Qatar Airways has announced the resumption of services to Egypt, starting with a daily flight to Cairo from January 18 and twice-weekly flights to Alexandria from January 25.
Also, UAE-based Air Arabia has announced the resumption of direct flights to Qatar, operating a daily flight between Sharjah and Doha from January 18.
A number of vehicles have also passed through the Abu Samra land border post, according to Qatar's General Authority Customs. A total of 930 vehicles crossed the border in the first three days after the Land Customs Department counters at Abu Samra resumed work last Saturday, the GAC said. These included 835 vehicles crossing the border into Saudi Arabia and 95 entering Qatar in the said period.
