West Bay Central Bus Station to operate 27 buses an hour: MoT
The West Bay Central Bus Station is ready to operate 27 buses an hour, the Ministry of Transport (MoT) has said. The station, according to an X post by MoT, is equipped with the necessary electric charging equipment for optimal operation.
Located in the West Bay District of Doha, about 10km to the northwest of Hamad International Airport, the bus station is accessible by road via Maysaloun Station which connects to Omar Al Mukhtar Street. The station is strategically located near the metro station. It serves the surrounding catchment area, including offices, retail, hospitality and residential with government offices on the north, west and south sides.
The station is built on a plot with a site area of 4,382sq m. It accommodates six bus bays for operating 27 buses per hour which are distributed on seven routes with a total capacity of around 4,000 passengers per day to reach 11 different destinations. Key nearby landmarks are the City Centre Shopping Mall, the Gate Mall and the West Bay district towers.
According to MoT, the architectural design of the bus stations simulates the Qatari environment. Each station building features an iconic curved canopy that spans above it, contributing to the brand identity associated with bus stations. The canopy evokes the ripples of sand dunes with the cladding on the underside of the canopy featuring linear baguette elements evoking the beautiful craftsmanship of traditional handmade Qatari objects such as woven baskets.
The stations are built with the highest world standards and specifications that reflect the identity of public transit modes in a way that makes it easy for people to recognise, making each station a landmark where it is located. Each station includes ticketing outlets, offices for the operating company employees, a passenger waiting area and other visitor service facilities.
