* 114 referred to Public Prosecution for not wearing masks

The authorities will continue to conduct inspections on roads to ensure people are strictly complying with the Covid-19 precautionary measures, a senior Ministry of Interior (MoI) official has said.

These include checks to enforce the rule on passenger occupancy in vehicles and wearing of masks, Brigadier-General Abdullah Khalifa al-Muftah, director of the MoI's Public Relations Department, told Qatar Television.

He stressed that "we are ready to implement any decision or instructions issued by the Supreme Committee for Crisis Management or the Ministry of Public Health for the safety of all". The official noted that the pandemic has not ended in the world or the country. "It’s imperative to fully follow the precautionary measures. We focus on awareness and hope the preventive measures will continue to be followed as they were at the beginning of the pandemic,” he said.

Stating that failure to comply with the precautionary measures has resulted in an increase in Covid-19 cases, Brigadier-General al-Muftah said those who do not wear masks and do not follow the measures will be handed over to the prosecution.

Earlier in the day, the MoI informed that 114 people had been referred to the Public Prosecution for not wearing masks in places where they were mandatory. The measure is in line with the Cabinet decision based on Decree Law No 17 of 1990 on infectious diseases, and the precautionary and preventive measures in force in the country to contain the spread of Covid-19, the ministry tweeted.

The competetnt authorities have called on the public to adhere to the precautionary and preventive measures in place to ensure their protection, and that of others, from the spread of Covid-19 in society.
