SIX CASES OF NEW
STRAIN IN OMAN
Omani Minister of Health Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Saidi announced yesterday that six confirmed cases of the new rapidly spreading coronavirus strains were recorded in the Sultanate, QNA reported from Muscat.
During the press conference of the Supreme Committee to consider a mechanism to deal with the developments resulting from the spread of the Covid-19, the minister pointed out that the most common new strain of the novel coronavirus in the world is the British strain, stressing that the Sultanate has advanced capabilities to detect it, whether in the laboratories of the Ministry of Health or Sultan Qaboos University, or private universities.
Oman News Agency quoted Dr Ahmed as saying that the Higher Committee hopes that the possible lockdown or other steps will be the last effort in dealing with the coronavirus, adding that the closure of the Sultanate’s airports is “under study and discussion” by the technical committee, expressing his hope that the committee will not have to re-close the Sultanate’s airports for international flights, as this will cause a lot of social and economic damage.
