Covid-19 cases reported globally among some of those vaccinated could be mostly due to a lapse on the preventive and precautionary measures without waiting for the immunity to build up, Dr Soha al-Bayat, head of vaccination at the Ministry of Public Health, told Qatar TV on Monday.
"Besides, there is a small percentage of people who could not build the necessary immunity in response to the vaccine," she explained.
The official reiterated the safety and effectiveness of Moderna's Covid-19 vaccine, pointing out that it is over 95% effective and has passed all the necessary safety and quality procedures.
"The emergency approval of the Moderna vaccine's use in Qatar does not mean undermining the necessary safety and efficiency tests and procedures as all studies indicate its safety. It is as safe as the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine and will be given to people according to which type is available at the health centre at the time of taking the vaccine.
"There are slight differences between the two vaccines; Pfizer/BioNTech in two doses 21 days apart and can be given to people aged 16 and above and Moderna in two doses 28 days apart to people aged 18 and above with some difference in storage conditions.
She stressed that no serious side effects have been observed of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine being administered in Qatar so far.
