The Court of Appeal has reduced to seven years the jail term of two Asian men convicted of illicit drug dealing and possession.
Local Arabic Arrayah daily reported that the criminal court had earlier convicted the two men of transporting, receiving and delivering a quantity of the illicit drug hashish for the purpose of trade. Accordingly, the court sentenced them to 10 years in jail and a fine of QR200,000 each, deportation after serving the sentence and confiscation of the illicit drugs. However, they filed an appeal through a lawyer claiming that their confession at the police interrogation was obtained through coercion and intimidation, they were innocent and did not commit any crime. However, the court was not convinced of such claims and only reduced the jail term by three years.
