Agriculture is one of the promising sectors in Uzbekistan and is attractive for Qatari investments, said Uzbekistan Deputy Foreign Minister Furqat Sidikov, citing the “special importance” of food security to the State of Qatar.

Uzbekistan deputy Foreign Minister Furqat Sidikov and Qatar Chamber first vice chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari during a meeting in Doha.
Speaking at a meeting with Qatar Chamber officials Tuesday, Sidikov pointed out that 60% of Uzbekistan’s agriculture products are exported to Asian countries. The sector, he told Qatar Chamber first vice chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari, is one of the country’s key sectors for investment.
During the meeting, which included Qatar Chamber board members Dr Mohamed bin Jawhar al-Mohamed, Mohamed bin Ahmed al-Obaidli, and Khalid bin Jabor al-Kuwari, Sidikov urged Qatari businessmen to invest in Uzbekistan, which, he stressed, offers many opportunities in the areas of energy, agriculture, tourism, and infrastructure.
Dr Bakhromjon Aloev, the ambassador of Uzbekistan to Qatar also was present at the meeting.
Sidikov also underscored the importance of establishing a joint business council with the aim to ease communication and inform both sides of available investment opportunities. He said Uzbekistan has issued many economic legislations aimed at making it an attractive investment destination.
He said Uzbekistan, situated in Central Asia, is a vital gateway for more than 300mn consumers. The deputy minister said his country is interested in developing economic and trading relations with Qatar, and stressed that the Uzbekistan Chamber is keen to strengthen co-operation with its Qatari counterpart.
Al-Kuwari said Qatar and Uzbekistan “enjoy distinct relations at all levels,” and that “it is the right time” for both countries to underpin economic ties and strengthen bilateral relations of both countries.
He said the many opportunities for co-operation between both sides has encouraged Qatari and Uzbek businessmen to establish alliances and partnerships that are of advantage for both economies.
“Qatari investors are eager to learn more about the investment opportunities available in Uzbekistan. Qatar Chamber highly-supports and encourages the development of co-operation relations between the Qatari and Uzbek private sectors,” al-Kuwari said.
Al-Kuwari said Qatar has succeeded in developing a sophisticated infrastructure and issued many legislations that strengthened its position as a global centre for business and investment, which paved the way for more foreign direct investments.
Al-Mohamed said Qatar and Uzbekistan “enjoy great opportunities for co-operation,” especially in light of the “distinguished political relations” between both countries. This opens new prospects for developing trade relations, he added.
Al-Obaidli emphasised the interest of Qatari businessmen to learn more of the opportunities available in Uzbekistan’s food security and tourism industries. He also stressed the importance of the laws that protect Qatari investments.
