With colourful shipping containers serving as retail outlets and commercial spaces, the recently-opened Box Park near Doha Port is becoming a popular place for many to hang out in.
A few shops have started operating at this new destination, including a café, grocery store and a number of food trucks, in addition to a spearfishing academy, boat/jet ski rental and other establishments offering marine products and services.

Visitors find the concept stylish and inviting as it appeals to many urban dwellers who like to dine and roam with families, friends and colleagues.
“I feel so relaxed while sitting here (a coffee shop on the upper floor) with a scenic view of the marina, the yachts as they come and go, and of course the beautiful Doha skyline,” said Filipino expatriate Milagros M, who visited Box Park with her compatriots recently.
“The good thing is I don’t have to go far, it’s a six-seven-minute drive from our flat, very accessible, and for me it’s one of the safest places to visit,” she noted, hoping that a park opposite to it will open soon.
When some coronavirus (Covid-19) restrictions are lifted, visitors can also use some of its fitness equipment.
Another visitor told Gulf Times that he likes visiting Box Park in the afternoon, around 4pm, when the food trucks start to open.

He said that the place is either an ideal stop before or after exploring some of the popular destinations nearby, such as the Museum of Islamic Art, Souq Waqif, the Doha Corniche, and the National Museum of Qatar, among others.
“After a very busy day, people can come here to just have a coffee or walk around and enjoy the ambiance,” he said. “Well, the colours of these containers – yellow, orange, blue – they’re simply soothing to my eyes.”
Box Park also attracts cyclists and electric scooter riders, as well as vloggers/social media influencers and photographers, who often come in groups during the weekend.
Due to the current Covid-19 situation, precautionary measures such as mandatory wearing of masks, showing the green code on the Ehteraz app, and social distancing, among others, are in place in the area to ensure the safety of all.
