The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) Livestock Department’s campaign to provide stray dogs with shelter has been going on for the second consecutive month under the motto Rifq (Pity).

During this period, the campaign targets different parts of Al Sheehaniya Municipality with the aim of spotting stray dogs and keeping them in an MME animal shelter established specially for this purpose.

This has been done in compliance with all the laws and conditions pertaining to animal welfare and to provide them with the necessary care regarding veterinary services, food, water and the required vaccinations for dogs, besides rehabilitating them according to the animal welfare law, the MME said in a statement.

The department recently intensified its efforts to contain the number of stray dogs in different areas around the country by finding such animals through regular campaigns. Besides, related reports could be communicated to the unified call centre at 184. All these cases are addressed based on a specific schedule and by taking into consideration urgent cases.

Following the completion of works at the permanent animal shelter in Rawdat Al Faras, the upcoming stage of the campaign will aim to receive and handle all reports regarding stray dogs and cats across the country and deal with them according to animal health standards, taking care of them while ensuring that they are free from diseases before being rehabilitated.

The site is being prepared to receive the largest possible number of such animals.

A temporary animal shelter has been created in the Al Mazrouah area. Besides, a specialised company has been assigned the task of collecting such animals and transferring them to the designated shelters. In the meantime, the MME is making sure that an environmentl balance is maintained all the time for the wellbeing of wildlife in the country.
