Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Hospitality Department has recently held a number of professional development courses for Qatari leaders in HMC’s Security Department.

The courses were aimed at developing skills and expertise of security staff in their respective field to support them in meeting the needs of all patients, visitors, and staff.

The courses, organised in collaboration with a Doha-based international training centre, gathered 14 leaders from the Security Department. Several participants have passed multiple assessments and advanced to higher levels in the programme while other participants will continue their development in the workplace.

Hamad Al Khalifa

Hamad al-Khalifa, chief, Health Facilities Development and acting chief of Business Services at HMC, said the objectives of the development programme are in line with HMC’s expansion plans to meet the increasing demand for its services. The programme includes sessions on planning skills, problem-solving skills, information technology, team management, as well as several other skills that are essential for security staff members and supervisors to perform their job duties in an efficient and effective manner.

“The programme is focused on building essential skills and competencies through a qualified bi-lingual team. The programme uses effective coaching and mentoring methods to develop the skills of the participants, with a special emphasis on practice and reviews of development outcomes. The programme also includes a variety of case studies, role-playing exercises, presentations, educational videos, and group activities,” added al-Khalifa.

Hassan Majed Al Jassim

Hassan Majed al-Jassim, executive director of hospitality at HMC, said, “Over the past two years, fourteen Qatari security leaders have been participating in professional development activities to obtain the internationally accredited ILM level-3 certification in leadership and management. This programme has been implemented by the training consulting firm Red Rock International.”

“HMC has identified the need to develop the skills and competencies of its security leaders through the provision of a personal skills development programme. This comes in line with the developments in the roles and responsibilities of security staff and supervisors across medical facilities, especially with the continued expansion of HMC in the past few years,” added al-Jassim.

Reda Mousa Ali, security coordinator at Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City and Hamad General Hospital said, “The programme focused on improving our planning and team management skills to ensure we are able to effectively interact with visitors in the Medical City and meet their needs.”

Hassan Salem al-Hitmi, security supervisor at Mesaieed Hospital added, “The programme has helped me obtain the internationally accredited ILM level-3 certification. As a supervisor, I learned during this programme how to identify the skills and competencies of each individual on my team and how to make the best use of the skills and competencies of my team members.”
