The International Business Delegation (IBD) has announced the inaugural edition of the Qatar-Africa Business Forum - a one-day virtual event bringing together Qatar and African businesses to explore the opportunities for partnership and investment on April 7.

At the event, businesses will be able to discuss emerging and relevant themes around doing business in Africa and Qatar, and connect to investment opportunities across both sides, all in the context of a challenging global economic outlook.

The Qatar-Africa Business Forum will be a platform for attendees to hear directly from Qatari and African companies about the opportunities and challenges of investing in and doing business across the board, thereby providing the opportunity for future B2B engagements and collaboration.

Participants will also learn more about the Africa Free Trade Continent Agreement (AFTCA), the new initiative that has created the world's largest free trade area, and the support offered by African governments to business and investors.

The event will also explore how inclusive, sustainable, and resilient investment can serve to help countries across the continent transition to a cleaner, greener economy and support recovery from the impact of coronavirus.

Featuring seasoned panellists and other speakers, the conference will focus on key sectors of activity, including sustainable infrastructure, renewable energy, financial and professional services and agriculture and agro-tech, among others.

Ahead of the event, the organisers recently had an info-session with the African Ambassadors in Qatar led by Fatma Mohammed Rajab, president, African Ambassadors Group, and the ambassador of Tanzania to Qatar.

Rajab said, "We are pleased with the initiative, which we believe will be of mutual benefits to Africa and Qatar. There are vast potentials in Africa, and we are looking forward to working together in maximising the opportunities on both sides."

Chairman of the IBD Summit, Yusuf al- Jaber, thanked the ambassadors for their support and reiterated IBD's commitment towards partnering with Africa in its developmental strides.

"I am sure as Qatar marches towards its bold QNV 2030 vision, it offers many exciting opportunities for African businesses to explore and thrive. Interestingly, Qatar could also be a Gateway to Global opportunities for African entrepreneurs. We are hopeful through your guidance and support; we can have some of your finest entrepreneurs, investors, innovators, and influencers from your respective countries part of this.

He noted that the forum would formally launch a series of B2B engagements to foster business and investment opportunities between Qatar and Africa.

IBD International director Vineet C. Nambiar said, "GO GLOBAL is the driving philosophy for the IBD platform as it strives to connect prospective Investors, Entrepreneurs and Influencers. Our Flagship IBD Summit and International Forums (Investor, Innovator and Influencer (i3) Forums) held across the globe have become major catalysts for powerful cross border international collaborations, alliances and partnerships, along with avenues for best-in-class learnings from industry experts and business leaders and influencers.
