Qatar University (QU) in partnership with Dar Lusail publishers and distributors kicked off five day long “The Virtual Book Fair” on Monday with participation of several publishing house in Qatar.

The launch of the virtual exhibition featured more than 300 printing presses. The activities includes a huge number of diverse intellectual and cultural seminars with participation of international and local publishing houses.

The virtual book fair aims to bring all publishing houses together under one roof virtually and provide variety to the public for five days. The seminars focus on development, cultural advancement and promotion of culture which are also open for public to actively participate.

The seminar program was inaugurated with a seminar presented by Dr. Daraa Moujib Al-Dossary, Training and Institutional Development Advisor, the seminar was entitled Emotional Intelligence Engineering.

Seminar on third day of exhibition will be held by Dr. Muhammad Al-Noaimi, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Qatar University, under the title of ‘American foreign policy towards the Middle East’, and on Wednesday, March 31, seminar will be held by Dr. Jassim Sultan, an advisor for strategic planning and author of the Renaissance Project series, on (Renaissance)

The last seminar will be held on Thursday, April 1, seminar will be held by Dr. Abdelhak Belabed, Associate Professor of Arabic Language at College of Arts and Sciences Qatar University, seminar will be entitled ‘Systematic Reading and Changing Our Habits of Reading Comprehension’.

During his speech, Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al-Derham, President of Qatar University said: “We believe in working towards betterment and improvement despite the pandemic. The virtual book fair provides opportunity to all those who wish to explore new books and research new discoveries.”

Dr. Hassan added that the idea of virtual book exhibition was launched by Europe’s first Arabic book fair. Dar Lusail Publishing house took the initiative to participate in the first virtual session of the Arab Book Fair in Europe, organized by the Swedish company named Nordic Digital World. This exhibition featured Arab writers and a number of cultural institutions in Europe.

The Qatar University Library initiated this type of virtual exhibition in cooperation with the Dar Lusail Publishing and Distribution House. On the sidelines of the virtual exhibition, a cultural program will be held, in which a group of Arab writers and philosophers will participate through seminars and workshops held in virtual halls.
