In recognition of its distinguished health and safety performance and wellness initiatives, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has won the International Safety Excellence Award 2021 from the British Safety Council.

Ashghal tweeted that the award has come as recognition for applying best practices, ensuring risk reduction, injury prevention and a safe work environment for workers, preserving labour rights, promoting health and care in workplaces, and as a testament to its commitment to health and safety and leading position in the Qatari construction industry, in terms of promoting awareness through targeted initiatives and implementing best health and safety practices.

The British Safety Council functions with a vision that no one should be injured or made ill through work anywhere in the world.

Realising that it requires more than legislation, people and organisations committed to health and safety make it a reality and inspire others to create workplaces that are a key force for good.

Last year, Ashghal was declared as the overall winner of two International Safety Awards 2020 by the British Safety Council for its commitment to keeping workers and workplaces healthy and safe during 2019.

Ashghal was crowned the overall winner in the “Wellbeing Initiative” category for protecting its employees from the risk of injury and ill health at work, and in the “Best Team of the Year” category for the Roads and Infrastructure project in West Muaither (Package 3), in recognition of its commitment to keeping its workers and workplaces healthy and safe in 2019.

Last year, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) recognised the health and safety standards of Ashghal’s Mesaimeer project with its “Gold” and the “Best New Entry in Middle East” awards.

Also, in 2020, the Roads Projects Department won two International Safety Awards with a Merit from the British Safety Council in recognition of its commitment to keeping its workers and workplaces healthy and safe during 2019.
