United Development Company (UDC), a leading Qatari public shareholding company and master developer of The Pearl-Qatar and Gewan Island, announced Wednesday a major safety milestone of exceeding five million safe working-hours without any Lost Time Injury (LTI) across its operations in Gewan Island.
While this milestone demonstrates UDC’s commitment to maintaining a safe working environment, it is especially significant in view of the project’s magnitude, complexity and fast track nature as UDC manages four very diverse but highly interrelated work packages, UDC said in a press statement Wednesday.
In this context, UDC’s construction team and project contractors continue to promote the highest construction health & safety standards with proactive management by ensuring close cooperation and communication on COVID-19 mitigation measures, logistics, emergency and contingency planning, inclement weather preparation and general health and safety, which has played a major role in accelerating Gewan Island’s development pace.
As such, Building & Landscaping Contractor, China Railway 18th Bureau Group is performing successfully and has exceeded expectations to date. Crystal Residence buildings are progressing horizontally and vertically rapidly with seven out of 15 buildings ahead of schedule and two already reached roof level.
On the other hand, infrastructure works are well underway with the construction of various utility buildings and supporting networks, namely water reservoir, electrical substations, sewerage pumping stations and solid waste collection station. Road and bridge networks are also commenced to allow interconnections between Gewan’s private island mansions and Abraj Quartier at The Pearl-Qatar.
The erection of the Gewan Bridge’s pylons is also completed, with the majority of deck segments casted and installation of these segments and associated stay cabling already commenced.
UDC’s unwavering commitment to health, safety, quality and working progress, will enable it to confidently achieve Gewan Island’s targeted completion schedule and deliver Doha’s most prestigious properties. Once completed, the Island will be home to 657 residential units, including 586 apartments, 21 beachfront villas with private beach, 26 waterfront villas that are equipped with private pontoons for private boats, and six independent island mansions, in addition to 11,000 sqm of retail spaces and 15 multi-use buildings.
Gewan Island will also feature the International Property Award Winner for Best Construction & Design, ‘Corinthia Gewan Island Qatar’ hotel along with its connected golf course and beach club, an air conditioned outdoor ‘Crystal Walkway’ and seaside promenade, parks and green areas, in addition to a sports club and a mosque.
