The Ministry of Municipality and Environment's (MME) Protection and Wildlife Department has announced the registration of the first cases of the endangered hawksbill turtles nestling at Fuwairait Beach.
The project team to protect these turtles has taken all the necessary measures and registered the related data, in addition to removing barnacles from them and treating the bruises. They also transferred 97 eggs to the designated place at Fuwairit Beach. The project is being implemented under the supervision of the MME, financed by Qatar Petroleum and implemented by the Environmental Science Center at Qatar University, in co-operation with the team of Protection and Wildlife Department.
Under the project, the northeastern beaches of the country are covered including Ras Lafan beach, Huwailah, Al Jassasiyah, Al Marounah, Fuwairait, Al Ghayraih, Al Mafir and the islands of Umm Tess and Rakan.
The MME has also announced the work on the project to protect the endangered hawksbill for the season 2021, according to the Ministerial Decision no 37 for 2010 on the Conservation of Turtles and Seabirds from Extinction.
