The health control department at Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality is intensifying inspection campaigns at food establishments there.

The drives, according to an official press statement by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), come as part of the municipality’s preparations to ensure food safety as the holy month of Ramadan approaches.

During March, inspection tours have resulted in the detection of 34 violations of Law No 8 of 1990 on the regulation of human food control and administrative closure of eight violating shops and restaurants for varying periods in implementation, according to the statement.

Last week, the department's doctors and inspectors carried out inspection tours that covered companies producing poultry, eggs and packaged water within the municipality.

The tours were conducted in order to determine the quality of local products by inspecting all stages of production and storage and their conformity with the Gulf standard specifications. During these inspections, 44 samples were obtained from all the products of these companies and sent to the central laboratory in Doha for examination.

The inspection tours covered many major shops, butcheries, stores selling fish, vegetables and fruits, as well as sweets and baked products. Workers in these stores were also instructed to adhere to the health requirements and precautionary measures in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Under the supervision of veterinarians, municipality officials will check carcasses at the slaughterhouse while the fish market there will be also checked.
