* Company sponsors 2 major events in honour of World Autism Awareness Day 2021

Ooredoo has said it is collaborating with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on a new initiative aimed at supporting children with autism spectrum disorders in Qatar.

In partnership with the MoPH, Ooredoo sponsored two major events in honour of World Autism Awareness Day; first, an international collaborative workshop with the World Health Organisation on March 31, followed by the Qatar Annual Autism Symposium – held virtually this year – on April 2 and 3.

In a statement, the telecommunications operator says its aim with this initiative is to both support parents of children with autism and to back professionals specialising in autism spectrum disorders.

The key principle of the symposium is a continuation of last year’s theme; ‘Building acomprehensive, inclusive early intervention framework for children with an autism spectrum disorder’. The symposium included workshops – directed towards both parents and education and healthcare professionals - hosted by speakers from both Qatar and further afield.

A pre-symposium workshop, titled ‘Developing Professional Competencies and Programmes of Training for Special Needs and Autism in Qatar’, was directed to participants from the MoPH, Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs.

Stakeholders from health and education institutes such as Qatar Foundation, Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation and private facilities and schools were also invited.

Sabah Rabiah al-Kuwari, director of PR at Ooredoo, said: “As a community-focused company, we are committed to embracing and celebrating our diverse communities. We’re honoured to have partnered with the Ministry of Public Health on such a worthwhile initiative. Inclusion is vital for the development of our people and our country, and we’re proud to be contributing to this development. We look forward to building on the productive, informative events that serve to improve the lives of children with autism spectrum disorders in Qatar.”

Also, to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day, Ooredoo’s headquarters joined many companies around the world by turning its tower blue to raise awareness.
