Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) signed a co-operation agreement with Al-Ahli Sports Club on Monday, aimed at supporting humanitarian initiatives in Qatar, exchanging experience, and promoting a culture of voluntary and charitable work among athletes.
The pact was signed by QRCS CEO Eng. Ibrahim Abdullah al-Malki and Al-Ahli Sports Club chairman Abdullah Yousef al-Mulla at a ceremony, attended by QRCS Volunteering and Local Development Division’s executive director Muna Fadel al-Sulaiti, and Al-Ahli Sports Club general manager Aref Abdulrahman al-Abdullah.
“This partnership builds on QRCS’ endeavours over its four decades, seeking to create a network of strategic relations with government and other organisations in Qatar,” said Eng. al-Malki. “We believe in the importance of sharing efforts, ideas, and resources, in pursuit of the ideals of corporate social responsibility (CSR)”.
“The coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic necessitates concerted efforts from all organisations. As an integral part of the Qatari society, it is our responsibility to have solid relations with different components of society. We share the same concerns and goals of advancing the community and improving individual conditions of living, guided by Qatar National Vision 2030,” he added.
Al-Mulla said he was glad to sign this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with QRCS.
“We pay great attention to serving society and its organisations. Sports clubs should have an effective role through their community service programs,” said al-Mulla, adding that he was glad to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
He stressed that Al-Ahli Sports Club is open to sharing all its resources with QRCS to organise any event. He sees this bilateral collaboration as having a positive impact on society, with sports, social, and other programmes, saying: “We hold CSR as an essential value.”
Meanwile, al-Sulaiti commended the new agreement that brings together two fields with noble goals, saying that: “Humanitarian action takes many forms, including sports. We are proud to have athletes from this leading sports club as volunteers with QRCS. This is a promising strategic partnership that will yield significant outcomes”.
Al-Abdullah said the MoU falls under the club’s vision of contributing to social development. “We welcome all civil society organisations, including QRCS, by holding and hosting numerous programmes. All our resources are available to be used by QRCS on any humanitarian activities that enhance their influence both in Qatar and internationally.”
The MoU aims to support social assistance programmes addressed to poor families, patients, and students, by promoting QRCS’ humanitarian projects among Al-Ahli’s members and visitors such as the Ramadan Campaign, as well as putting donation collection boxes around the club premises.
