The Premium Qatari Vegetables and Qatar Farms programmes achieved significant sales during March, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) announced on Tuesday.
A total of 3,751 tonnes were sold during the month, comprising 456 tonnes through the Premium Qatari Vegetables and 3,295 tonnes from the Qatar Farms Programme.
There was an increase of 51 tonnes compared to February when a total of 3,700 tonnes of local vegetables were sold. This included 453 tonnes through the Premium Qatari Vegetable Programme and 3,247 from the Qatar Farms Programme.
The MME launched these programmes in co-operation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to improve local marketing operations and help the farmers market their produce.
The programmes provided the opportunity for Qatari farmers to display their locally produced high-quality vegetables which were available at affordable prices for consumers.
The Premium Qatari Vegetable programme was launched in January 2017 in Al Meera complexes only with the participation of 16 farms. As a result of the success of the programme, it was launched in other consumer malls (such as LuLu Hypermarket, Carrefour and Family Food Centre) in December 2017.
