The Karnataka Sangha Qatar (KSQ) recently organised its annual blood donation camp at the Hamad Blood Donation Centre.
Blood was collected from eligible and healthy donors, both female and male.
Precautionary measures were followed including social distancing and wearing of face masks by all members given the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.
The second Covid wave did not deter the spirits of the donors.
KSQ has been conducting the annual blood donation campaign for the past two decades without any discontinuity.
KSQ president Nagesh Rao spoke on the benefits of blood donation and saving lives in the process. He welcomed chief guest Baburajan, president of Indian Cultural Centre, special invitee Ziad Usman, president of the Indian Community Benevolent Forum, and Subramanya Hebbagelu, vice president, Indian Cultural Centre.
Nagesh Rao cordially thanked former presidents of KSQ – Arun Kumar, V S Mannangi, Deepak Shetty, and immediate past president Venkat Rao for being a part of the campaign.
Nagesh also welcomed the leaders and representatives of other Karnataka-based associations including; president of Bunts Qatar, president of Tulu Koota, president of Qatar Billavas, president of SKMWA, president of KMCA, along with Anil Boloor, MC member of Indian Sports Centre and former vice president of KSQ, and Mahesh Gowda, former vice president, ICBF.
Special invitee for the event Dr Girish, specialist gastroenterologist at HMC, addressed the gathering and shared valuable insight on the origin and development of blood donation, the eligibility, prerequisites, advantages, precautions and benefits.
Dr Girish also shared his insight on the available Covid-19 vaccination types, their method of affecting an individual and whether to get vaccinated or otherwise.
He emphasised that “blood donation is one of the noblest deeds by any individual, as there is nothing to lose. All other conventional forms of donation and charity have some materialistic loss incurred by the donor”. He was honoured on behalf of KSQ.
The formal session concluded by thanking all blood donors, staff of Hamad Blood Donation Centre, Subramanya Hebbagelu for co-ordinating the event on behalf of KSQ and all the association leaders present.
