The Ministry of Culture and Sports has announced the launch of Akas Centre. The centre will highlight the art of photography in Qatar and work on promoting it. It will provide appropriate conditions for its practice with artistic and educational methods and means and create ways for the members of the centre to practice their activities.
The new centre will develop plans and programmes that achieve the practice and development of the hobby of photography, and work on implementing them, while providing the necessary material and human potentials to achieve its goals, as well as encourage and train young people of both genders to practice photography. This is in addition to creating competitions and specialised technical courses, awarding talented people, and organising seminars, shows and activities in the field of photography.
The ministry called on young men and women who are interested in photography to apply for membership of the centre, which will be granted prior to the application. Members of the centre will have the ability to participate in activities, run for management of the centre or other related tasks, and have the possibility of getting access to its publications, as well as attending, participating and reviewing decisions of its general assembly.
In a related context, Director of Youth Affairs Department at the Ministry of Culture and Sports Maha al-Rumaihi said that launching this centre is based on decision no 75 of 2021, which was made by HE the Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser al-Ali. "The centre was launched to provide an appropriate environment for the hobby of photography, which has witnessed a great growth and has been getting increasing attention of a large number of youths in the country," added al-Rumaihi.
She also explained that in accordance with the ministry's directives in regard to empowering youth, through activating the role of general assemblies, nominations will be held to choose a president and a vice-president among the members of the centre, calling on youths who are interested in photography to apply for membership and participate in the upcoming registrations that will open soon.
