Crowne Plaza Doha and Holiday Inn Doha at The Business Park recently joined hands with Doha Environmental Action Projects (DEAP) for a clean-up at Sealine Beach.
Ten volunteers from the two hotels participated in the initiative, helping remove 150 kilos of harmful waste from the area.
As part of their commitment to give back to the community, Crowne Plaza Doha and Holiday Inn Doha – The Business Park organise a volunteering activity every year.
In the past years, both hotels participated in clean-ups around various areas of the country in partnership with DEAP to contribute to environmental sustainability activities in Qatar.
This year, the clean-up activity was conducted at Sealine Beach.
As it is a popular desert trip destination among travellers and Qatar residents, disposable wastes are often left behind, putting the desert's and the sea’s natural habitat and wildlife in jeopardy.
DEAP is a volunteer-based organisation leading the beach and desert clean-up movement in Qatar.
Founded in May 2017, its main purpose is to restore and preserve the natural beauty of the landscapes in Qatar by conducting clean-ups, and to raise public awareness of the negative impact and environmental damage of plastic pollution.
“It is a great pleasure to be joining hands with DEAP once again this year to show our support in keeping Qatar clean. As part of our corporate social responsibility efforts, we are committed in advocating causes and initiatives that create a positive impact in the community.
"From this year onwards, we will be focusing on carrying out more CSR activities and participating in more initiatives in line with IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow,” said Gilles Nicolas, general manager, Crowne Plaza Doha and Holiday Inn Doha – The Business Park.
IHG Hotels & Resorts recently launched Journey to Tomorrow, a decade-long action plan comprising a series of new commitments to make a positive difference in communities around the world.
Speaking about the campaign, IHG’s CEO Keith Barr said: “Journey to Tomorrow embodies IHG’s strengthened commitment to make sure we do what’s right, not just what’s needed. We want every IHG stakeholder to see that we’re on a journey to be successful in every sense of the word, and we are determined to contribute towards positive social and economic change, to stand up for key issues such as diversity, equity and inclusion, and human rights, and to make more responsible environmental choices."
