The Premium Qatari Vegetables and Qatar Farms programmes posted significant sales during April. According to figures released by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) Wednesday, total sales stood at 2,798 tonnes with 468 tonnes marketed through the Premium Qatari Vegetables and 2,330 tonnes through the Qatar Farms Programme.
The MME launched these programmes in co-operation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to improve local marketing operations and help farmers market their produce. The programmes provide an opportunity for Qatari farmers to display their local production of high-quality vegetables at affordable prices for consumers without an intermediary.
The Premium Qatari Vegetable programme was launched in January 2017 with the participation of 16 farms in Al Meera complexes only. As a result of the success of the programme, it was launched in other consumer malls (such as LuLu Hypermarket, Carrefour and Family Food Centre) in December 2017.
