The 2024 Conference on Prophetic Biography was held under the theme ‘The Importance of Evidence of Prophethood in Contemporary Times’, with the participation of a distinguished lineup of scholars, academics and specialists from Qatar and abroad.The two-day conference was organised by Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s College of Islamic Studies.The event aimed at exploring historical and modern aspects of prophetic evidence and its relevance as proof of the Prophethood of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It delved into the critical role of the evidence of Prophethood in shaping contemporary Islamic thought and beliefs, while addressing the challenges faced by Muslims today. It sought to provide a comprehensive study of the significance of this field and its impact on contemporary issues.Addressing the opening session, Dr Aisha Yousef al-Mannai, director of the Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani Center for Contributions of Muslims to Civilisation and Chair of the Conference, stressed the importance of the conference and its theme which evokes the noble role of the Prophet on humanity.Dr Recep Senturk, Dean of the College of Islamic Studies at HBKU, said the conference explored the essence of faith and emphasised the importance of guidance at a time that is increasingly characterised by doubt and many epistemological and ideological challenges.The conference sought to prove Prophethood through rational evidence that can address atheist ideas, denial of divinity and religions, Dr Senturk added, stressing the importance of Prophethood in guiding people through divine laws that are not subject to interests and whims.The conference sessions discussed exceptional issues in this field, most notably how to spread the Prophet’s biography in the modern era under the dominance of Western values, the importance of scientific approaches related to the science of evidence to confront modern waves of atheism, and others.The conference also dedicated a session for students, providing them with opportunities to communicate with their peers and specialised experts in order to enhance their academic careers.
